What we don't collect

What passes through the app, and why

The idea you type in. When you describe your business and generate names, that text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to produce category suggestions, name candidates, and brand scores. It's processed to generate your results and isn't used by us for anything else. Avoid typing anything personally sensitive into the description field — treat it like any other text sent to a third-party AI service. See Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle API input.

The names you check. Candidate names and the extensions you select (.com, .io, etc.) are sent to our server so it can query public domain registries (RDAP) for live availability — the same public data anyone can look up directly.

Anonymous usage events. As you move through the wizard (finishing a step, generating names, saving a domain, clicking through to Dynadot), the app logs that event type along with a random session ID — a value generated in your browser and stored in sessionStorage, not tied to your name, email, or any account. This is used in aggregate to see where people drop off in the flow, so the product can be improved. It is not used to build a profile of you individually, and it clears the moment your browser session ends.

Saved domains and wizard progress. When you bookmark a name or refresh mid-search, that data is stored only in your own browser (localStorage for saved domains, sessionStorage for the in-progress wizard) — it is never uploaded to our servers. Clearing your browser storage, or using the app's own "remove" / "start over" controls, deletes it. The one exception is the "Share this list" feature: if you explicitly click it, your saved list is encoded directly into a URL you choose to share — nothing is stored on a server for that either.

Cookies

typingname does not set cookies for tracking or advertising. The only client-side storage in use is localStorage and sessionStorage, both described above, both used purely for the app to function (remembering your saved names, resuming a draft) rather than to track you across sites.

Third parties involved

Data retention

Anonymous usage events are retained only as long as needed to understand product usage and are not linked back to an individual. Anything stored in your browser (saved domains, wizard drafts) stays there until you clear it yourself — we have no way to delete it remotely, because we never had a copy of it.

Children's privacy

typingname is a business-naming tool intended for founders, marketers, and businesses. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If what typingname collects or how it's used changes materially, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will reflect it.
