typingname exists to fix one specific frustration: brainstorming a business name and then discovering, one by one, that every good version of it is already taken. So instead of a blank text box, it asks what you're building, generates 50+ names matched to your industry and tone, and checks live registry availability for all of them up front — so you're choosing from names you can actually register, not hoping.

What it is

typingname is a free web tool. There's no account, no signup, and no paywall — you describe your idea, get names, and check availability, all in one flow. It's built and maintained independently, not operated by a larger company.

How it's built

Name generation and category suggestions are powered by Claude, Anthropic's AI model. Domain availability is checked live against public domain registries (RDAP) at the moment you run a search, rather than relying on a stale, pre-built list. Every name is scored on length, pronounceability, memorability, and distinctiveness so a 50-name grid stays skimmable instead of overwhelming.

How it's funded

typingname is free to use and carries no ads. It's intended to be supported through an affiliate relationship with Dynadot, the domain registrar linked throughout the app — our application to Dynadot's affiliate program is pending approval, and once live, if you register a domain after clicking through from typingname, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That relationship, active or pending, never affects which names are generated or how availability is reported; every result comes from the same live registry checks regardless of where you end up registering.
